Abstract

Background: Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world and in the past decades its incidence has increased a lot. However, this type of cancer is largely preventable through protective behaviors. This study aimed to determine the most important predictors that effect on protective behaviors based on BAZNEF model in midwifery students in Urmia.

Methods: This Descriptive analysis study was conducted on 100 midwifery students. The samples were collected using stratified random sampling method. We used a questionnaires for collecting the dada that consists of two parts: demographic characteristics and model structures (attitude, enabling factors, the subjective norms, behavioral intention and behavior). Data were analyzed with using Spearman correlation test and regression with use the backward strategy.

Results: The results showed that the Mean age of participants was 68/1 ± 15/21 and there was a significant direct correlation between marital status, economic status and maternal education level and History of burn with preventable behaviors from cancer. Mother and fathers educational level, subjective norms and enabling factors predicted 49% of preventable behaviors of skin cancer.

Conclusion: Based on the results of this study was suggested that enabling factors and subjective norms for designing and implementing of interventions were used in youth more than another factors to skin cancer prevention.
